File Storage & Privacy

Please be aware that the Drive feature is not private. Files you upload are stored with randomized UUID filenames and protected by rate limits to reduce abuse, but they can theoretically be accessed or scraped by others, even if not attached to a post. Avoid uploading sensitive or private information onto your Drive.

Federation & Deletion

NanoSocial is a federated instance. While we honor delete requests on this server, content shared with other servers may not be fully removable, as that is outside our control.

Who we are

NanoSocial is a federated social media instance operated by Cybersun, based in the Netherlands. The server infrastructure is physically located in Germany and hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, a well-established European hosting provider. NanoSocial is a personal project and not operated by any company or commercial entity.

Data Storage and Security

All user data is stored locally on the NanoSocial server using a PostgreSQL database. The server is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, which provides the physical infrastructure and network connectivity. Media files uploaded by users are stored and delivered via BunnyCDN, a content delivery network.We implement reasonable security measures to protect stored data. Server logs managed by Nginx are retained only for up to three days and are used exclusively for debugging purposes. We do not actively monitor these logs beyond this scope.

Content Delivery & Global Replication

Media files and certain static assets are delivered using BunnyCDN. The primary storage zone is located in Frankfurt, Germany. For faster access worldwide, copies of media may be cached in edge locations in the United States and Singapore. This means that when you or other users access the site (or request media) from outside the EU, certain media and related connection information (such as IP addresses in access logs) may be temporarily stored outside the EU.

Federation and Data Sharing

As a federated platform, your public content may be shared with other servers in the fediverse. While we honor deletion requests on NanoSocial, content shared with other servers may not be fully removable, as malicious servers may choose not to honor delete requests.

NanoSocial is offered as a personal project with good faith security efforts. We do not accept liability for any damages or losses resulting from your use of this service. Due to the federated nature of the platform, we cannot guarantee the policies or data practices of other servers you may interact with.
